Fishing: I enjoy sitting at the water's edge watching the tip of a pole as the bobber telegraphs to me that someone wants the bait. There are many rivers, lakes and ponds nearby to enjoy fishing for the numerous species of fish.

Gardening: There is a sense of accomplishment that comes from tasting the fruits of our labors. Tilling the soils, planting the seeds, transplanting the plants, weeding the garden can be very enjoyable and relaxing activities. They lead to pleasures of seeing a well-cared for garden and harvesting the fruits and vegetables that you have helped to grow. Gardening gives us a better appreciation and understanding of what nature provides to us daily.

Hunting: I feel closer to the land as I walk the wooded hills and valleys. I see the wildlife that populates the land where I live. I never harvest any animal which I will not use. I feel that hunting is necessary if only to control populations of wildlife. After hunting deer for over 35 years, I took my first buck this past fall. It was a 12-pointer, and well worth the wait.

Football: This is my favorite team sport. I enjoy watching football whether it is high school, college, or professional. I watch intently. At times, my cheering disturbs those I am with. I still think that the team should be able to hear me through the television! I realize how dangerous the sport is and hope it continues to be made safer.

Surfing the Web: Maybe it's the learner/teacher in me, or just the explorer, but I do enjoy surfing the web, looking for "important" information. The non-sequential meandering can be so enjoyable. Sometimes you say, "How did I get to this topic?" and looking back at the "history" can be amazing. This interest causes me to become a more understanding and knowledgeable person. |
