You have chosen a NEW car for the first column of the Decision Matrix, now you will choose cars for the other two columns.

Your Task

Locate two used cars  at a car dealership which is located within a 100 mile radius of where you live.  These two cars should be of the same make and model (if possible) as the car chosen in Step One.

One of the cars should be 1 to 3 years old.  The data obtained from this car will be entered in column 2 (the 1 - 3 years old column) of the Decision Matrix.

The other used car should be 4 to 6 years old.  The data obtained from this car will be entered in column 3 (the 4 - 6 year old column) of the Decision Matrix.

Talk with your local car dealer  to get the specific information you need regarding the cars of your choice.  Add this information to the Decision Matrix.

Document Your Visit to the Car Dealer by getting a copy of the Car Condition Report, Wisconsin Buyers Guide, or similar printout from the dealer. (See sample in Figure 1.  Click on Figure 1 for an enlarge view.)

Some Questions to Consider When Writing Your Conclusion:

How far would I be willing to travel to look at used cars?  Does the dealer have a reliable reputation?  Did I check out more what than one dealer has to offer?  Is the dealer knowledgeable about the car I chose?  What kind of warranty comes with this used car?  How many miles does the used car have on it?  How many previous owners has this car had?  Has this car ever been in an accident?  Is the price negotiable?   Did I test drive the car?
