See p. 103 Leader’s guide – Bible book timeline

1.  Messianic Fullfillment – Joseph – angel 3 times in dream.  Mary – angel comes to her, most favored one.  Looking back in time vs living in the time – 14 year old girl, engaged, angel appears – going to conceive God! –Luke 1 & 2. God becomes man.

2.  Mary & Joseph – Mary says “yes.”  Eve said “no.”  Put her will over God’s.  Mary is new Eve to undo the “no.”  Exodus – God gives specific instructions to Moses to build the ark of the covenant – foreshadowing of Mary.  Mary has 1. Law = Jesus, 2. Priesthood = Jesus, 3. Bread of life = Jesus.  Ark contained 1. 10 commandment tablets, 2.  Aaron’s priestly staff, and 3. Manna from sky (bread from sky).  Joseph & Mary were both special.  Only Mary and Jesus were without sin.  Joseph was with sin but still very very special.  Mary was the sinless vessel by which God (Jesus) entered the world.  Mary and Joseph LOSE God (Jesus age 12) at the temple.

3.  Hypostatic Union --  Luke 2:41-52 “Did you not know that I would be in my Father’s house…..obedience…”  Divine / Human 100% each all the time = hypostatic union.  Begotten not made.  Picture Jesus standing in front of you…can you look him in the eyes?  If no, then run to reconciliation.  NO sin is too terrible to be forgiven.  God wants to use YOU.

4.  Christ the Healer – Luke 5:17-20 paralytic lowered through the roof – faith  -- sins forgiven.  Can you identify with the paralyzed one?  Do you have 4 friends to help you to Jesus?  Second part – you are the friend of another who is paralyzed.  Not fear but urgency – so that you attain the goal of your faith, salvation of souls – not just yours but others too.

5.  Life in Ministry – movement – Christ’s life is movement toward the Father – Leader in faith then will need to turn back to crowd (orchestra leader example).  Keys to Peter – changes name – Peter is the one who says the truth:  “You are the Christ! “    Responsibility = one who has the ability to respond.

6.  Portrait Mary – Exodus: Water to blood – Cana wedding in John: water to wine.  Mary in John 2 says “They are out of wine.”  Just lets him know, does not tell him what to do.  Model of discipleship = perfect disciple (one who sits at the feet of = student).  Mary does not tell God what to do – tells him of needs but lets him decide and trusts.  Not pride (pride = exercise of will for self.)  Tells stewards “do whatever he says.” – trust.  What do you do?

7.  Living for Christ – Read Luke 1 & 2, John 2.  Lord let it be done according your (God) will – Mary and Jesus (Our Father prayer).  Trust in God even if you are sinner – Joseph was sinner and said yes.  Faith gets God’s attention.  Mass, adoration, prayer, anytime God’s will ahead of your own – God notices!

8.  Portrait Jesus – 4 gospels:  God became man for 4 reasons:

1.  To reconcile us with God

2.  To show us what true love is (love is give (not give and take))

3.  To model holiness

4.  To have us be partakers of holy nature – God becomes man so that man can become more like God.

Love means suffering – which draws us closer to God.  Perfect Love, perfect surrender of Jesus on cross

9.  The Eucharist --  Exodus: the slaughter of lamb foreshadow of Jesus – John: tells us of the Lamb of God (Palm Sunday through Easter).  Remember = to become one with.  John 16:7  God accomplished a way to be in all places at once.  Tabernacle containing Jesus (Eucharist) is now everywhere in the world.  Justice of God – had to die to hold up his end of the covenant – had to keep his promise despite that we did not keep our in Bible history – loves us too much to dismiss you and me.  Triumph over the devil as Jesus sheds his blood for us!

Are you willing to go where God leads you?  No matter what it takes?
