1. Exile – 2Kings 17 Assyria sacks Israel (northern part of divided kingdom). Judah (where the city of Jerusalem is and is the southern part of the divided kingdom) falls to Babylon in 2Kings 25.
Exile from Judah occurs in 3 waves:
1. Daniel ---Book of Daniel
2. Ezekiel and Baruch
3. Massive destruction – Jerusalem is gone
2. Portrait Daniel – Portrait of Trust -- Book of Daniel. 5 kingdoms with Jesus the final kingdom. Daniel is a prophet. Read Book of Daniel chapter 6:11-13. Daniel prays and God intervenes and saves him in the lion’s den. Pray when in a no win situation – especially if asked to deny God and faith. What lion’s do we have to face and not turn from God?
3. Living in Captivity – 70 years of captivity but 70 x 70 years = 490 years of hard living – Daniel’s vision.
4. Return – Persian king allows Israel / Judah to return home -- Ezra chapter 3
Then Ezra chapter 7 re-instilling the law. Nehamiah – rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Persia gives way to Greece as the world leader.
5. Portrait Ester – book of Ester
6. Maccabean Revolt -- Times of Alexander the Great / Aristotle -- 1 Maccabees 4 desecration of Temple and take back of the Temple – orange flame burns for 8 nights but only enough oil for 1 night – Hannuka with 8 candles. “Courage” = when you act from the heart.
