What struck you most in the DVD segment today?
1.
Egypt and
Exodus– Enslaved for 400 years. One Holy Nation! Deliverer – foreshadows Jesus – Moses. Read Exodus 1.
2.
The Burning
Bush – Theophany = experience of God.
Exodus Chapter 3. God’s name: “I
am who am” Sacred Tetragrammaton. You
are not allowed to say the name of God.
JHVH (Jehovah) or YHWH (Yahweh).
Yet how common is profanity. “…at
the name of Jesus, every knee should bend...”
Phillipians 2: 6-11 (read)
10 plagues: Exodus 7-12
3.
The Passover
– Exodus 12 – 10th plague – perfect lamb without blemish – no broken
bones and no deformities. 10th
day find lamb and on 14th day kill and eat flesh, hyssop branch dip
in blood and put on doorpost – angel of death Passover. (It is a hyssop branch that Christ’s
crucifiers use to dip sponge in sour wine and put it up for him to drink.) No blood on door, then death of first
born. 10 commandments – Sign of Covenant
– the Law. But people are worshipping
false gods.
4.
Desert
Wanderings -- Ark of the
Covenant. Caanan spying – do not believe
they can do it except for 2 or 12 spies:
Joshua and Caleb. Do you trust
me? – remember Adam and Eve? 10 of 12
don’t trust so must wander in desert for 40 years. You can take the Israelites out of Egypt but
you still have to Remove Egypt from the Israelites – get rid of false gods –
analogy of addiction. Teaching
dependence on God alone.
5. Portrait Moses – Exodus, Numbers and Deuteronomy – Numbers chapt 20: 10 Moses strikes the rock TWICE – not once – he did not trust enough.
Numbers 21 complaining? -- “bronze serpent”
Pillars of catechism: 1. Creed 2. Sacraments 3. Life in Christ 4. Prayer
Deuteronomny – second law
6.
Conquest and
Judges – book of Joshua
7.
Portrait
Rehab – Joshua 2: 11-13
“Conversion” Joshua 2: 18 scarlet cord as sign of sin and saving. Crossing Jordan to Jerico – 2nd

9.

End notes: What we want is not what we need. Moving into the kingdom next time.
