Additional Questions (numbers match above):

What struck you most in the DVD segment today?

1.    Early World – Genesis 1-11.  Literal vs Allegorical Truth – does this make it easier to accept?  Truths:  Creator, Sin and the Fall, Promise of Redeemer.

2.    Creation – Genesis 1-2.  God created because He is Love.  Object of His love is His creation.  Trinity is perfect love – Love of the Father for the Son, and of the Son for the Father – That love is the Holy Spirit (John Paul II).

Order of creation:  Light from Dark, then water from Land – SEPARATION,

Then Decoration – moon, sun, birds…then on 6th day beasts and Man.  Each day more complex in creation.  All is good until Man is alone “not good.”

3.    Man and Woman – Why is Eve from a rib? – equality.  Genesis 1:26-27 “Let Us create man in Our image.”  Pleural tense foreshadows revelation of the trinity.  The image is the capacity to love.  Male and female are different.  Roles are different.  Adam is to work and protect.  Women are more complex more united in creation.  Man to give, woman to receive.  Matrimony – the way of making a mother.  God participates in creation through and in the love of Man and Woman in matrimony.

4.    Covenant:  God gives His all, no limit, however, your part is to give “everything” that you are too.  Covenant NOT = contract.  Covenant = Sworn Oath = Latin Sacramentum from which we get the word Sacrament.  So the word “Sacrament” is in the Bible literally (the Latin translation of Covenant).  Covenant is a “plan to Love.”  The first Covenant with Adam was Sabbath.

5.    Portrait of Adam and Eve – Genesis 3 – Serpent – not small snake but a huge, threatening, serpent creature.  Places doubt – do you trust God?  Adam does nothing to protect.  Pride?  Pride = exercise of your will for yourself and not for God.  When and how do you trust in God?  Even when facing threat?

6.    The Curse & The Promise –  Genesis 3 -- Curse is for violating the covenant there will be enmity between the serpent and man -- and labor pain not the curse but teaching love – means suffering.  Labor pain of love to joy of new child.  Love = my will second to yours God.  What do you think about that part of love is suffering and pain?  Examples?  Think of good books and movies and other inspiring stories.  Think of life.

The Promise – will send a Deliverer – Jesus.

7.    Family Portraits – Genesis 4 – 5 -- Blood line of Adam – Noah --- Jesus --- you.

8.    Portrait of Noah – Genesis 6-9 -- Adam & Eve were individuals now we have a family of God.  New Covenant.  Adam & Eve broke the first Covenant.  New Covenant with Noah.  Trust in God is huge – built an ark 1 ½ times the size of a football field with no power tools, no wood shop, no knowledge of boats …. Must have taken years.  Trusting in God when you don’t understand?  Covenant Sign – rainbow.

9.    Tower of Babel --  Genesis 11 -- Family of Ham wants to make a name for themselves not for God  -- pride – build a huge tower to show how great “we” are.  Out of love God sends confusion to foil their pride – why? They are focusing on self and not the other / God – does not lead to happiness – which is to be with God.
